The Port of Gulfport maintains a comprehensive emergency management plan for severe weather and works closely with local, state and federal emergency management partners in order to respond effectively to potential threats and disasters.

**Weather Update: Tropical Storm Bertha – Monday, July 20, 2026**

Due to the potential of sustained winds (39 mph or greater) associated with Tropical Storm Bertha entering Sector Mobile’s area of responsibility within the next 72 hours, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Captain of the Port (COTP) has ordered Port Status WHISKEY for the Port of Gulfport.

WHISKEY is the first condition in the Coast Guard’s heavy weather sequence. Under WHISKEY, all waterways remain open to all traffic, and all cargo and transfer operations continue. At this time, the Port of Gulfport is open and operating normally.

The storm forecast track remains uncertain, and the port condition may change as forecasts are updated. The Port of Gulfport is in close contact with the COTP and USCG Sector Mobile and will post changes to the port condition if they are issued.
More information on USCG port status requirements for mariners can be found on the USCG website at https://navcen.uscg.gov. Facilities should review and update heavy weather response plans and secure loose gear now.

The Port of Gulfport maintains continuous situational awareness throughout hurricane season and actively monitors all storm systems with the potential to affect port operations or infrastructure.

All relevant weather advisories, storm tracking updates, and operational status changes will be posted here as they become available.

Port tenants, partners, and stakeholders are advised to check this page frequently during periods of tropical activity for official communications and guidance related to port readiness, closures, and reactivation procedures.

Thursday, September 12, 2024 (5:24 p.m.) – Hurricane Francine

The Port of Gulfport is at port status NORMAL.

Hurricane Francine has cleared the Captain of the Port (COTP) Mobile Area of Operations. There have been no reported impacts to the COTP zone.
The Port of Gulfport has returned to NORMAL status and operating as usual.

Port of Gulfport administrative offices will close at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 11 and resume normal operating hours Thursday, September 12.

Tuesday, September 10, 2024 (6:14 p.m.) – Tropical Storm Francine

The Port of Gulfport is at port status YANKEE MODIFIED.

Due to the possibility of gale force winds (39-73 mph) associated with Tropical Storm Francine entering Sector Mobile’s area of responsibility within 24 hours, the Captain of the Port (COTP) has ordered Port Status YANKEE MODIFIED for the GICW west of MM 105, the Port of Gulfport, and the Port of Pascagoula. Current weather forecasts could change within the next 12 hours. A maximum storm surge of up to 5 feet is possible for the affected areas.
 
At this time, all other waterways in the Mobile AOR in NORMAL status are open to all traffic.

Monday, September 9, 2024 (3:30 p.m.) – Tropical Storm Francine

The Port of Gulfport is at port status X-RAY.

Due to the possibility of gale force winds (39-73 mph) associated with Tropical Storm Francine entering Sector Mobile’s area of responsibility within 48 hours, the Captain of the Port (COTP) has ordered Port Status X-RAY for the Port of Gulfport.

All waterways are open to all traffic, and operations are ongoing at this time.

2021: Hurricane Ida

Thursday, September 2, 2021 (1:00 p.m.) – Port Update

The Port is Gulfport is at port status NORMAL.

Hurricane IDA has cleared the COTP Mobile Area for operations. Post-storm surveys and Aids to Navigation verifications have been completed.

Following the results of a USACE survey, the draft restriction for the Port of Gulfport has been adjusted to 32Ft/9.75M.

Tuesday, August 31, 2021 (9:00 a.m.) – Storm Update

The Port of Gulfport remains at Port Condition ZULU. Channel surveying is underway.

Land base operations are OPEN as normal and all tenant terminals are operating.

No vessel operations at this time.

The Port Administrative offices are OPEN as normal.

Monday, August 30, 2021 (3:45 p.m.) – Storm Update

The Port of Gulfport remains at Port Condition ZULU.

USCG has permitted the Port of Gulfport to open land base operations at this time.

All waterways remain closed until further evaluation of the channel is completed.

Monday, August 30, 2021 (9:30 a.m.) – Storm Update

The Port of Gulfport remains at Port Condition ZULU. We are assessing Hurricane Ida impacts. Initial reports indicate no major damage.

At this time terminal and vessel operations remain CLOSED until further notice.

The Port administration office remains temporarily closed but expects to reopen on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 8:00am.
